Our singer John the Baker slid into the rail instead of on top of it at Underwood Skatepark while we were on tour june 6th in PA. We finished the tour but hopefully John wont try and skate as hard during future tours.

THE RAMEN DAYS is a fantastic documentary by filmmaker Melissa Elbirt that tells the story of the recent Bay Area hardcore punk scene:
Its trials, tribulations, achievements and its failures all told by the bands and people who have worked so hard to make the Bay Area a viable, self-reliant and vibrant punk scene. The movie follows the lead of one John The Baker, a misfit punk who moved to the Bay Area to open a punk-run recording studio and gig space called Burnt Ramen in the lower slums of Richmond,CA. A place that turned into a combustible clubhouse of punk rock insanity and a breeding ground for relentless punk music, lifelong friendships and an example of what DIY/punk rock can achieve when left to its own devices ,until its closure by the Fire Marshall in 2003 (thanks Great White!). This film contains interviews (and live footage) by those who made it all happen and the bands that erupted out of this enviroment: BORN/DEAD, VOETSEK, DEADFALL, SCURVY DOGS, CASE OF EMERGENCY, STFU, DESOLATION, BLOWN TO BITS, STRUNG UP, EXIT WOUND and BRAINOIL. We feel this is one of the most important punk rock films in 20 years, surpassing past punk films like "Decline Of The Western Civilization" and "Another State Of Mind" in both heart and artistic vision. Using both humor and fierce honesty, Ms. Elbirt has created a film of utmost importance to the hardcore/punk community (local and international) and shows us all what can be achieved when our hearts and minds are captivated and dedicated to the DIY ethics of punk rock.

Going on Tour ! may 28- june 9th

On tour next month I get to play a show with my family when I return to NY on tour this year with my band INSTANT ASSHOLE.

My 2 nephews will share the stage with me at The Basement in Kingston NY. Joey Eppard is the leader of the band THREE on METALBLADE and is currently on The Progressive Nation Tour with Opeth and Dream Theater. Joey also plays in a band called DRUGS which is all members of P FUNK sans George Clinton. Joey is also a writer for P FUNK for the last 8 years . In addition Joey is an accomplished solo artist and he and I will be releasing a split 7" together sometime in the future.

Josh Eppard, Joeys younger brother, is the original drummer in Coheed and Cambria . After leaving THREE when he was 18 he joined a band called Shabutie which, after recording a demo, changed their name to Coheed and Cambria and well, the rest in history. After playing and touring with Coheed for 7 years non stop, Josh quit Co. & Ca. to persue his own hip hop project WEERD SCIENCE. The Science is recording their 2nd record right now and its going to be awesome !

Joey and Josh have started doing a duo together playing some of the old THREE tunes from when they were younger as well as new stuff. They have played twice now and so this will be their THIRD showcase of the Eppard Bros. Duo June 8th in our hometown of Kingston NY at The Basement 744 Broadway 9pm 21+ $5 with my band Instant Asshole. Joining us that evening is DENT freaturing Joe and Chris from THREE . Dent is the two drummers from THREE doing their duo which is an utterly amazing rhythmic assault and opening the night is DEAD UNICORN another duo of local area kids that is a cataclismic grindcore apparition.
Earlier at the basement INSTANT ASSHOLE will play an all ages show with local area punks starting at 5pm at The Basement.

John the Baker returns to New York with new band Instant Asshole

John “the Baker” Eppard, the guy arrested for the lyrical content of his songs in Woodstock NY (1994) and proved the case against him unconstitutional (1995) and won an out of court settlement against the Town of Woodstock for $20,000 (1997) returns to NY after 10 years with his new band, Instant Asshole.

Following his freedom of speech victory, John the Baker left NY. Yet before leaving, he inspired a secret investigation against the Woodstock Police force with his song, “Cops Are FKin Little Girls”. Well, the cops were, and the State Police investigation proved it and as a result 6 Woodstock Police officers were fired for sexual misconduct.

John the Baker is the brother of noted Woodstock area musician Jimmy Eppard and Uncle to internationally renowned recording artists Joey Eppard (Three) and Josh Eppard (Weerd Science, former Coheed and Cambria).

Instant Asshole is touring the Northeast in support of their new Tank Crimes Records split vinyl release with Boston’s Mouth Sewn Shut. During this tour, Instant Asshole will play 2 special shows June 8th in John the Bakers hometown of Kingston NY at The Basement 744 Broadway. An early 5pm ALL AGES show with local favorites U.T.D., Stench and Soul4Sale. The evenings show at 9pm is 21+ and will feature Joey Eppard and Josh Eppard doing a duo as well as performances by DENT (members of THREE and Peacebomb) and an opening performance by locals Dead Unicorn.

MAY DAY ACTIVITIES in SF ! Under the broad theme of Workers Uniting Without Borders –Amnesty for All, protesters will gather in San Francisco on Thursday, May 1st for a 2:00pm rally in Dolores Park, a 3:30pm march to Civic Center, and a 5:00pm rally and musical performance. There will be a 12pm rally in Quarry Plaza, followed by a march to a 4pm celebration in San Lorenzo Park. A march, rally, outdoor film screening, and other activities will take place in Watsonville starting at 4pm in the Plaza.

An Immigrant Rights May Day March in Oakland will gather at 3 pm at Fruitvale BART Plaza for a march down International Blvd. to a 6pm rally at Oakland City Hall (14th & Broadway).

In San Jose, an Immigrants Being Active Participants in Change march will gather at 4pm in the Mi Pueblo Foods parking lot (Story and King Roads) and will head down King Road and Santa Clara Street to San José City Hall (Santa Clara and 5th Streets).

In Fresno, a March for Immigrant Rights will gather at 3pm in the Fulton Mall Free Speech Area, with plans for a 5pm march (Video).

Alternatives to Myspace part 4

So I been searching for good alternatives to myspace and been up against really bad terms of service for most sites. Most sites want to have ownership of the content in order to re publish it on the internet. While this is important, most sites are using terms of service that put all the ownership control into thier hands so they can do whatever they want with your songs/content. Most can make compilation CDs include your songs and not ask you pay royalties or even tell you that they are doing it.

So I have been battling with these sites to have them make their terms of service more artist friendly. I have found two sites that I like

Fuzz.com started out with bad terms and has since changed them based on my input. They are SF based and run by musicians that I know personally. Its a good site that serves as a good alternative to myspace for musicians and bands.

Punkrockers.com has good terms and is more of a friend site than a musician/band site so it is more like myspace and has almost no advertising and is very user friendly.

Check these new sites out and join! And leave rupert murdock with the yuppies christians and censors to themselves back at myspace.

Instant Asshole will be keeping their myspace site but moving all content to :

The myspace site will serve to direct people to our new pages and to hold the INSTANT ASSHOLE spot there because to be a real asshole you have to stick it to the man and at least try to subvert the dominant paradim.

We will be touring a lot this year. First up we are heading to the Northwest for 8 days playing June 5th in Chico, Ca. at the Langolier House , June 6th in Portland, Or. at Ground Kontrol, June 7th in Tacoma, Wa at Hells Kitchen, June 8th in Seattle, Wa. at The Funhouse ,June 9th in Bremerton, Wa. at Winterland, June 10th Seattle,Wa at Sunset Tavern, June 11th in Eugene, Or. at Le Sous Sol , June 12th in Arcata, Ca.venueTBA .

Then we will be doing a 3week west coast tour with MDC aug 21 through Sept 9th. Venues and details to be post4ed soon.

After that we plan to tour out to Las Vegas, Austin, TX. and New Orleans, La. in November 2007.

Thats what our year looks like so far In 2008 we will do a full usa tour.
